Friday Five!

Is it that time of the week again? The end of the week, and the end of August- time seems to be flying this year!

As with every Friday, it’s time to share the things I loved this week. So here’s the best of the best of the week!

1. My Keurig Mini

I was impressed with my Keurig. I wrote about it before. But then I ordered a variety pack of tea, cider, and other speciality drinks for it. Now? This is the best invention ever!

IMG_0550.JPG

I’m really digging herbal teas, as too much caffeine seems to be irritating a bunch of symptoms that aren’t really blog appropriate. However, these hot cocoas and the cappuccino flavors rock!

2. Aviary Photo-editing App

This free app offers in-app purchases to beef up the already impressive editing capabilities. I’ve purchased a few extra sticker packs and borders to play with, just for fun, but even without them, this is the editing app I keep returning to. It’s easy to use and has some cool effects.

Be careful though, it’s easy to get caught up in what you can do and over edit your photos.

3. Pur Minerals Lip Gloss Sticks

I found one of these in my makeup drawer, completely unused. It was in a pretty coral color that matched what I was wearing, so I figured I would give it a try. The result? Loving it! A touch of color and completely non-drying. Perfect for my summer sunburnt lips!

4. The Sporty Look

So, I finally figured out how to style my Joggers. For a summer-to-fall transition look, I’m loving joggers with fun sneakers and a classic tee. For errands or just to look a little more fancy, I’m pairing peplum with my Joggers for a really neat look. But as much as I love the peplum+joggers? I just keep coming back to the sporty look.

5. Beets

I thought I hated beets, I really did. But after trying a local best salad from Grocery Bar, I’m a convert. They’re earthy, they’re pretty, and they’re perfect with goat cheese. Plus they’re inexpensive and readily available. Really, what more can you ask for in a root vegetable?

So what are you loving this week?

Friday Five

Okay, so I’ve decided to make this a regular thing. Friday is officially the time for me to make a list of the top five things I’m loving this week. Not only does this hopefully help you discover new things to try and love, it provides me with a reference when I’m looking back and thinking “so what WAS that mascara that I used to buy?” Yeah, it’s perfect, especially for Friday, which is a day for me to be lazy with blogging and spend time with friends anyway. So without further ado, let’s check out this week’s five!

1. Blueprint Juice.

IMG_0337.JPG

I’m nowhere near ready for one of the cleanses they offer, but if I missed a meal in a pinch or my digestion is feeling a little off, these juices are my go-to. Although I one day want to own my own juicer, these juices saved the day when I got glutened in St. Louis by someone not washing their hands after touching bread!

They’re also perfect for adding more fruit into my diet, because I hate the texture of fruit but usually love the taste. So, juices all day everyday!

2. Back to School Sales.

I’ve snagged so many great things at back to school sales the past month. Two pair of cropped pants on clearance because the weather was getting cold in St. Louis, three pairs of Joggers, a black dress, some grey flats, and a cute tank top. Not only can they be used next year, but warm socks and tall boots help the cropped pants make the transition from summer to fall!

Yes, that picture of me with a dog is the best way to show off the cropped pants and flats. Don’t question it.

3. Gold eyeliner.

Seriously, lined lids are so in this season. I’m loving gold and other metallics for this look. NYC and Urban Decay both sell some pretty gold liners, so check them out if that sounds like something you’re into! Lined lids are an easy way to change up your look and can be classy or casual so it’s definitely worth a try this season.

4. Short hair.

I’ve been loving this for a long time, but after YouTube and Pinterest showed me some new ways to style my hair, I fell in love with it all over again. Yeah, I’m still waiting for it to grow out, but at least now I’m having fun doing it. Seriously, straight, curly, wavy, I feel like my hair can do no wrong! Especially now that I’ve splurged for a daily clarifying shampoo and some It’s A 10 styling products!

5. Casual Walks.

I was really into hiking this summer, but it does NOT agree with my chronic illnesses. Instead, I’ve found that taking casual low key walks is a great way to de-stress while also exploring your area! Sticking to walking trails can make it easier on you, since there’s no steep uphills or weird terrain. I like walking with friends because it’s a great way to catch up while enjoying the beautiful weather, without the pressure of some other outdoor activities!

So what are you loving this week?

Friday Five:

This week has been weird, weird, and busy. Thanks to starting Cymbalta, I’ve been sleepy and tired and not really up for much. So I apologize for the lack of posts and the lack of inspiration. Once again, here’s my Friday Five, with five things I loved this week.

1. Bath and Body Works True Blue Spa Line.

I’m not really a fan of bath products, usually. As long as my hair looks good and my skin looks fine, I don’t care what I’m putting on them. However, this stuff has totally changed my mind. Full of fresh scents and some seriously great products, this is the bath product line I’ve been waiting for. I’m never going back to my old drugstore soaps and shampoos.

2. Vanilla Coke.

IMG_0104.JPG

This is one of those things I know I should quit but I never will. The caffeine really doesn’t do much for me, which is sad as I’m currently fighting to keep my eyes open after even the smallest exertion. The taste, however, is awesome. It’s a small treat in a world where all of my favorite foods were taken away from in one fell swoop with my celiac diagnosis several years ago.

3. Tom’s of Maine.

From gluten free deodorant to some seriously awesome toothpaste, I’m loving Tom’s of Maine. My last deodorant was giving me rashes from gluten I didn’t suspect, so finding something all natural and gluten free to take its place was awesome. The deodorant comes in several awesome scents and the toothpaste doesn’t taste as bad as most do. Seriously am I the only one who thinks normal toothpaste tastes like chemicals?

4. Beach Waves!

IMG_0087.JPG

I thought I couldn’t rock this look because I have short hair. Which doesn’t make sense, because my hair is naturally curly. With a bottle of Not Your Mother’s beach wave spray and a Pinterest tutorial for putting summery waves in short hair, I set out on a hair journey that would change my life hair forever.

Seriously, I got a good two days out of this hair before I had to do anything to it. I had the help of Not Your Mother’s beach wave spray, Got2B styling gel, and some Batiste dry shampoo. Ignore the fact that I’m not wearing makeup in the photo- I had an allergic reaction to something and had to give my face a break.

5. Basil.

Yeah, another food item. But a very appropriate one for August! From basil infused herb lemonade to some pasta salad with fresh from the garden veggies, basil is so versatile! I’m loving it in Caprese salads and infused waters especially.

Friday Five:

My original plan was to review some makeup today, but it was a hectic week so plans have changed. Instead, here’s the top five things I’m loving this week!

1. Oyster Unlimited Books App

If your library allows you to check out ebooks, you’re lucky. If not, this app is the next best thing. CNN called it “The Netflix of Books,” and that’s pretty accurate. I’m also subscribed to Scribd Unlimited, but Oyster is much more user friendly and I love the layout.

2. Gold Eyeshadow

Especially rose gold, but plain ol’ gold works too. My e.l.f. baked palette in Texas and my BH Cosmetics palette both have several shimmery golden shades in them. I love working a little bit of gold into a brown eye look- especially a brown “smokey” eye. (Can it really be a smokey eye if it’s not black and grey?)

3. Antique Glassware

From mason jars to mismatched table settings, thrift shopping is all the rage. The vintage, recycled, somewhat careless look is in. This week, for a picnic, I didn’t have to head out to a thrift store. All I had to do was dig through my grandpa’s cabinets. He may be a bit of a hoarder, but at least 1/10 of what he’s stowed away is cool. Guess he was onto something after all.

4. The Weather (And the clothes for it.)

This only counts for a list like this because the cooler weather is expanding my style options. Low seventies, upper sixties? High waisted shorts, and old tank top, and an oversized sweatshirt pair nicely with some Tevas or Chacos. It’s casual, it’s comfy, and it’s totally on trend. Side note: isn’t this sweatshirt pattern cute?

5. Jazzed up Macaroni

I’ve been eating a lot of Aldi brand gluten free macaroni. It’s good, it’s easy to make, and apparently it gets boring fast. Now I’m all about adding things into my macaroni, which makes it more like a meal anyway. Steamed broccoli and bacon bits or greens with bacon cheddar brats are two of my favorite combos right now. I’m going to try a baked macaroni recipe soon.
